Refurbished WIDE Bus Shines in New Splendor
A real challenge at the WIDE children's home is the daily transportation of the children to the schools, which are 5 km away. As there is no school bus or public bus between the children's home and the schools, a bus that was as cheap as possible and therefore very outdated was purchased a long time ago with donations. After it had been in daily use for another 12 years, breakdowns were the order of the day and repeatedly caused the children to miss lessons. In addition, the frequent repair costs and high diesel consumption swallowed up a lot of money that was urgently needed for food, clothing and school supplies.
Intensive research and cost comparisons led to the decision to aim for a general overhaul of the old bus. Thanks to generous donations, the funds were made available and after 6 weeks of work, the bus returned to the children's home with a fresh new look at the end of July. Unfortunately, however, an important replacement part for the engine can no longer be obtained. As a result, while the engine has been thoroughly cleaned and is running more reliably again, the anticipated long-term improvement could not be implemented. The funds saved will remain set aside.
The children are happy to come to class reliably and on time again. Many thanks to everyone who donated so generously!
