FAQ
Our administrative costs mainly consist of bank charges, postage, office supplies and printing costs for the Christmas mail, as well as website hosting and advertising material (flyers). We are usually able to cover these costs with our annual membership fees. In exceptional cases, however, one or the other has also made an additional contribution.
If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please contact us by phone or e-mail. We will then clarify whether an individual or partial sponsorship is possible and whether a child from the Yamuna Children's Home or Ashraya would be suitable. Based on the photo, name, age, situation and origin of the child, the potential sponsors can then get an idea and decide whether they would like to take on the sponsorship. Ideally, a sponsorship lasts for years, but there is no obligation. It is possible to withdraw at any time, and when a sponsorship ends, we will organise a follow-up sponsorship so that the departing sponsors do not have to worry about the child.
The end of a sponsorship can be initiated by the sponsor, but also by the sponsored child.
If the sponsor wishes to end their support, whether for financial or other reasons, this is of course possible at any time. We then look for a successor and bridge the gap with donations that are not earmarked for any other purpose.
On the other hand, the middle or high school leaving certificate is usually the point at which life in the children's home or sponsorship by Ashraya ends and a young person goes their own way. This is also when the sponsorship usually ends. However, if all parties wish, sponsorship can also follow during a period of study.
Experience has also shown that in individual cases children from mountain villages have not returned to Kathmandu after their holidays. The reasons for this may be that the children are needed at home for housework or fieldwork, for example if their mother or father is ill. Even if this is difficult for us to accept, we have to let it happen and take comfort in the fact that the child will benefit from their years at school for the rest of their lives.
For whatever reason a sponsorship ends: We always try to get a farewell letter or video from the child. This is desirable for the sponsor, but it is also important for the young person to be able to address and express their gratitude.
Yes, of course, volunteers are most welcome in both children's homes.
Our members pay a membership fee of €50 per year. For couples, the membership fee is €80 per year.
At the Yamuna Children's Home in Nepal, there are always costs that are not covered by the sponsorship contributions for the children. For one thing, not all children have a sponsor. On the other hand, additional costs are incurred, for example for permits from the authorities, repairs, office supplies and medical care. So donations for the Yamuna Children's Home without sponsorship are therefore always very welcome in order to finance such expenses.
The same applies to Ashraya, where in addition to supporting children and young people through sponsorships, situation-related aid projects such as earthquake aid, covid aid, but also, for example, exercise books and pens for schools in mountain villages, a washing machine for a retirement home or similar. So also for Ashraya, donations without a sponsorship reference are most welcome.
